[He's seen Sango here and there during training; he's talked to her once or twice-- and now it's time to try and spar against her, he thinks. He's been training two months, he's pretty damn good-- and though Sango seems pretty brilliant, Jack thinks he's got a chance.
So he waits patiently at the edge of the training platform for her to take a break.]
[Sango's doing her warmup before training with Coby, stretching out the sore muscles from the day before, and the day before that, and the day before that... et cetera. She's taking an initial hour or so to practice her kata and throw around Hiraikotsu a little bit, just to keep it fresh in her head.
She notices Jack waiting there and leaves off after a certain set of kata, stretching her arms out as she walks over.]
[He jumps to his feet as she approaches. His expression changes a little, looking slightly hesitant. You Do Not Fight With Girls, no matter that they're damn good, that it's just sparring, that girls can do stuff now-- you still Do Not, and it's hard to overcome that.]
Er-- I was wonderin' if you wanted to, uh, practice fightin' or somethin'.
[Sango is honestly pretty sick of hand to hand, since it's all she's been doing with Coby for like six hours every day the past few weeks. Despite this, she draws her sword out of her sash and leans it on the wall next to Hiraikotsu. Perhaps sparring Jack will be different, and less bruising.]
Alright. Let's go.
[With that she backs up to where there are mats set up on the floor and drops into a defensive martial arts stance, waiting.]
[Despite his hesitation he strikes immediately, a low sweeping kick that's intended to knock her off her feet-- and because he knows that won't work, he follows it with a quick jab to her throat.]
[He's right, it doesn't work. Sango gives just enough of a jump to avoid the kick. She can anticipate the throat-jab, too, and sidesteps accordingly while grabbing at his outstretched wrist for an intended flip.]
[He has time enough to shout as he's tossed over her hip-- he knows enough to at least spring up to his feet immediately, to jab at her again even though his back is aching--]
[Jaime headed on up the last day of evacuation, and after a couple days of moping - okay, crying - it's finally dawned on him to check up on a few people beyond pinpointing their appearance on the moonbase.
[Sango's not quite done sulking miserably either, but he's managed to beat her to the checking-up-on. She realizes as she gets this message that she hasn't seen him all week.]
Jaime. Hello. [She pauses, the silence heavy.] You're... alright, then?
[There's no reason for this to be awkward. He knows Sango. But it is anyway, just like every other time he's spoken to everyone here, the silences and gaps in between words filled with the clamoring knowledge of why they're here, and what they left behind.]
[Nobody's really alright, of course--not in the head, not right now, unless they're a truly despicable sort of person. But she figures that's understood.]
It's what friends do. I shoulda called earlier, but. [If Sango knows Jaime by now - and she does - the fact that he's flailing one hand to wave the comment off should be fairly apparent even without video. He pauses.]
Seriously, though, this whole being-in-space thing has gotta be weird to you.
Heh. No, it's not normal. Like, at all, unless you go through all these programs and training to become an astronaut - a dude whose job it is to go into space, I mean. But some stuff happened.
[For fuck's sake, Jaime. Can you just tell her all the weird stuff at once or something?]
A job to go into space. [She can't imagine why anyone would want to, considering how distasteful she finds the base already.] And... stuff. What stuff?
Yeah. For science and exploration? It doesn't really matter.
[Not now, anyway. As for the 'stuff'...]
Um, it's kind of hard to explain. The first time the League - those are like the superhero A-listers - needed my tech to find a satellite in space. The second time, the aliens who actually made my tech wanted to enslave the Earth which, uh, I wasn't really cool with. And since their base of commands was in space, that's where I ended up going too.
Heh, thanks. [He's... not entirely sure if he's comfortable with anything resembling awe coming in his direction, and certainly not with how morally conflicted he's been feeling lately.]
It was a lot easier than all of this is, though. I caught it before they managed to do much.
[It's okay, she won't be too admiring for long, even if she's sure Jaime's downplaying his own abilities--she's seen him in action, after all.]
Well, I guess that sort of thing's always easier when you catch it early. [If only someone had caught Naraku all those years ago. Better yet--if only someone had put the UE out of its misery, long before now.] Which... is the point of the time travel, I guess, isn't it? With the UE.
[Not that it makes time travel any more appealing.]
Yeah. I just... wish that there was another way to change this, besides stumbling blind through time doing seemingly random things in hopes that it'll fix the future. They call it a war, but it's not, it's... espionage, at best.
I almost wish it actually was a war. Everything would be so much simpler if all we had to do was fight. I could understand that.
[She really misses the days when she could just punch her problems away. ]
[Slightly backdated to earlier on the 26th.] If you're getting this, you wanted to know more about the clones. I'm going to tell the network what I know soon, but here's a copy of my notes.

If you'd like, sure. Did you have anything specific in mind?

Wait. Are you saying you saved the Earth from being enslaved?
[Holy shit Jaime. Talk about accomplishments.]
no subject
[He is pretty proud of that one.]

[That is totally not an accomplishment she is even slightly envious of, nope.
And even if it was, the only thing that can be heard in her voice is awe, at the moment.]

[They're still responsible for other deaths. Just not on a scale as large as the UE is.]
But the consequences are different. I can't say I really understand most of it.
[Time travel, man. It sucks.]

[Where are all the evil giant robots? Seriously, guys.]
But it's a war all right. When this many people die... it's a war. It's just one that we can't fight the normal way. We know that now.
